
Geospatial & Smart Cities Technical Officer
The client
Our client is a government organisation based in Melbourne’s south east. They have a great opportunity for a Smart Cities Technical Officer with strong GIS/Geospatial data analysis and visualisation skills, and knowledge of IoT/Smart Cities to join on contract.
- Narre Warren location with flexible/activity-based arrangements
- 3 month initial contract with likely future extensions
- Daily rate of $600 plus super
The role
As a Smart Cities Technical Officer, your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Employ data analysis techniques, including data visualisation, interpretation, and data mining, to extract valuable insights from smart city data streams
- Identify opportunities for data storytelling by translating complex data into meaningful narratives that inform stakeholders, and the community
- Utilise GIS tools for spatial data analysis, geospatial visualisation, and GIS software usage to enhance decision-making
- Collaborate with key stakeholders, data users, various departments, and external partners to optimise IoT dashboards and visualisations, ensuring that they provide the maximum value from data and facilitate informed decision-making in alignment with broader city objectives
- Development of Internet of Things (IoT) policy and architectural framework
- Explore the ability and feasibility to integrate Artificial Intelligence and machine learning into Council operations
- Ensure that smart city technologies and data collection comply with relevant regulations and privacy standard
- Ensure smart city projects are delivered in accordance with the project management framework using agile methodology, keeping a keen eye on project objectives, budget, schedules, stakeholder engagement, change management, risks and issues, progress reporting, submissions and proposals
About you
To be successful in this role you will need:
- Proficiency in data analysis, data visualisation, data interpretation, and data mining techniques
- Expertise in GIS, including spatial data analysis, GIS software usage, and geospatial visualization
- Demonstrated experience in deployment of IoT related projects
- Previous Smart Cities experience highly regarded
- Stakeholder engagement expertise
- Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively translate technical concepts into clear, non-technical terms for diverse stakeholders
