Role Overview:
The Category Sourcing Specialist is a pivotal role responsible for managing the vendor segment. You will spearhead the development and execution of sourcing strategies aligned with the category plan to drive commercial value for the business over both short- and medium-term horizons while managing risks associated with your category.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand the nature of the supply base (national, regional, & global) and the competitive forces of the supply market.
  • Fulfill business needs in line with category strategy, managing the sourcing process for procuring goods and services, ensuring the supply decision balances cost and quality.
  • Support Category Managers and Leads to develop a pipeline of opportunities in conjunction with key business stakeholders or Contract Owners based on contract expiry.
  • Collaborate with the Category Manager to identify gaps in the category, emerging goods or services, size of price, opportunity, and feasibility of goods or services.
  • Orchestrate the sourcing process, including determining the sourcing strategy, executing the appropriate due diligence required, conducting market/supplier analysis, price benchmarking, and conducting the negotiation process.
  • Interact with internal stakeholders, including Project, Business, Legal, Risk, and Vendors to facilitate sourcing outcomes; and work collaboratively across Procurement and business stakeholders to deliver opportunities related to third-party spend.
  • Drive continuous improvement to help achieve procurement and business targets and demand savings opportunities.


  • Proven experience in sourcing and negotiating, with the ability to problem-solve and deal with complex and ambiguous situations.
  • Strong communication, stakeholder, and relationship management skills.
  • An understanding of risks and appropriate control options.
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to analyze cost vs. risk trade-offs; high level of commercial acumen, strong negotiation skills, and results-oriented.
  • Understanding of supply market dynamics, Third Party Risk and Regulatory requirements, external leading practices, and market trends relevant to spend areas.
  • Knowledge of end-to-end procurement lifecycle management across Strategy, Source to Contract, Supplier Relationship Management through to Req. to Pay.
  • Extensive experience in Category Management or Sourcing in the area of People and Professional Services.
